Geospatial and Health Research Lab

Welcome to the Geospatial and Health Research Lab, where innovation meets impact.

Our mission is to advance the understanding of health disparities through cutting-edge geospatial analysis and community-centered research. We combine expertise in Geographic Information Science, environmental health, and social determinants of health to address pressing public health challenges, particularly in underserved and vulnerable populations.

Located within the Division of Social Sciences at Prairie View A&M University, our lab is a hub for collaborative research and education. We partner with community organizations, public health agencies, and academic institutions to develop data-driven solutions that improve health outcomes and promote environmental justice.

Our current projects focus on:

  • Assessing the combined effects of spatial social networks and environmental exposures on mental health, with an emphasis on minority youth.
  • Community-based air quality monitoring to identify and address health disparities in Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas.
  • Investigating the associations between artificial light at night (ALAN) and adverse birth outcomes, such as low birth weight (LBW).
  • Exploring food insecurity and its relationship with disability and other social determinants of health globally.
